Operational Readiness
Operational readiness is the process of preparing the custodians of an asset under construction and their supporting organization in a way that they are fully ready to assume ownership of the asset at the point of delivery or handover. The purpose of Operational Readiness is to identify, highlight and reduce the occurrence and impact these factors can have on the output at the time of start-up or ramp-up. While operational risks are easier to measure than some other types of threats, they do have consequences that can be catastrophic for any company.
When facility lifecycle at CAPEX stage is not considered and operational readiness is not sufficiently achieved at the outset, here are some examples of unwanted scenarios.
- Up to 30% of the value of a capital program can be destroyed due to operational readiness failures.
- Ongoing operations and maintenance costs over an asset’s lifecycle can be 2% higher, year-over-year for the entire life of the asset.
Xcelerate’s unique operational readiness framework combines leading industry practices and domain expertise to properly access the organization’s maturity, smoothing the transition from capital projects to operations.
Using our experience and project needs we determine the appropriate operational readiness elements required for the project phase.
